Beijing, April 11 (NationPress) The United States must not act impulsively, and the course of history cannot be altered, stated Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi on Friday.

Wang, who is also part of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, expressed these views during a meeting with Rafael Mariano Grossi, the Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).

He pointed out that the intervention by certain major powers in unilateral coercion is a significant factor contributing to the current international environment characterized by turmoil and instability, as reported by Xinhua news agency.

"With the United States currently employing tariffs, it is overtly prioritizing its own interests over the collective interests of all nations, disregarding the multilateral trading system and established protocols," Wang stated, emphasizing that the global community should not remain passive.

Wang asserted that China, as a responsible member of the international community, is committed to defending its legitimate rights and interests while also protecting the collective interests of the global community to prevent humanity from regressing to a lawless state governed by might.

He mentioned that China is eager to use the 80th anniversary of the founding of the United Nations (UN) as a chance to staunchly support the international framework centered around the UN and the international order based on legal principles, collaborating with other nations to oppose all regressive actions worldwide.

Earlier that day, Chinese President Xi Jinping remarked that there are no victors in a tariff war, and opposing global norms will only lead to self-isolation.

China also announced plans to impose additional tariffs on US products starting April 12, raising the total effective rate to 125 percent, following US President Donald Trump's declaration of a 145 percent duty on Chinese imports.

After his meeting with Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez in Beijing, Xi stated that over the past 70 years, China has achieved progress through self-sufficiency and hard work, never depending on the goodwill of others and not fearing unreasonable oppression.

He added that regardless of external changes, China will maintain confidence and focus on effectively managing its domestic affairs.
