Patna, Feb 3 (NationPress) Following a reprimand from his father regarding his academic performance, a 12-year-old boy reportedly took his own life by hanging from a ceiling fan in Bihar's Purnea district.

This tragic event unfolded near Janta Chowk, within the Kirdar police station area on Sunday evening. The deceased has been identified as Luv Kumar, the son of Chandan Goswami.

At the time of the incident, Luv was home alone, as his family had gone to a nearby village.

Chandan Goswami explained that they reside in a rented accommodation in Purnea and that Luv had generally performed well academically, but had recently started to neglect his studies. His mother had expressed concerns about his waning focus on academics, leading Chandan to admonish his son. Sadly, Luv reacted poorly to the disciplinary action.

On Sunday evening, while left alone, the heartbreaking incident occurred when Luv took his own life by hanging from a ceiling fan.

Upon returning from the neighboring village, the family found the home locked from the inside. After managing to unlock the door, they discovered Luv hanging from the ceiling fan.

The family swiftly transported Luv to Purnea Medical College, but he was pronounced dead upon arrival.

Uday Kumar, the officer in charge at Kirdar police station, stated that police arrived at the medical facility upon receiving the report and interrogated the family.

Initial investigations indicate that the boy may have made this desperate decision following parental pressure to focus on his studies.

“The family members opted not to file a complaint and declined a post-mortem examination. Given the child's tender age, there is no indication of any ulterior motive. However, we are continuing to explore all possible angles,” added Uday Kumar, SHO of Kirdar police station in Purnea.
