Gurugram, March 30 (NationPress) A sessions court has sentenced an individual to 20 years of rigorous imprisonment and imposed a fine of Rs 40,000 for the crime of raping a minor in Gurugram.
The police received a report in February at Police Station DLF Phase-1 concerning the disappearance of a 16-year-old girl.
Following this report, a case was registered at the same police station.
During their investigation, law enforcement located the girl, but her medical examination revealed that she had been raped, leading to the application of relevant sections of the POCSO Act to the case.
The Gurugram Police took swift action, apprehending the accused, Furkan, a resident of village Bastapur in the Hardoi district of Uttar Pradesh, who was responsible for the assault on the young girl.
Following his arrest, the police gathered all pertinent evidence and witness testimonies against Furkan and presented them in court.
According to Sandeep Kumar, spokesperson for the Gurugram Police, "Based on the charge sheet submitted by the police and the supporting evidence, the court presided by Additional Sessions Judge Ashwani Kumar Mehta declared the accused guilty on Saturday."
The court imposed a 20-year sentence and a fine of Rs 40,000, he added.
In delivering the verdict, the court emphasized, "The court must respond sensitively to the silent pleas of society, balancing the rights of the accused with the needs of the victim. The accused displayed a malevolent mindset by subjecting a minor to penetrative sexual assault and deserves stringent punishment."
