However, the MLA's family asserts that he accidentally shot himself, leading to severe bullet wounds, particularly to the head.

In a statement to the press, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Jaskaran Singh Teja mentioned, "As indicated by the family, he accidentally inflicted a gunshot wound to his head. Gurpreet Gogi was declared dead at the hospital, and his remains are currently held in the mortuary at DMC hospital."

Furthermore, the DCP indicated that the exact cause of death will be established following the post-mortem report.

The occurrence took place around midnight on Friday, and officials confirmed that the MLA was pronounced dead upon his arrival at DMC hospital.

"The event transpired around midnight, and he was declared deceased when he reached the DMC hospital..." stated DCP Jaskaran Singh.

Investigations into the matter are ongoing.

Gogi joined the Aam Aadmi Party in 2022 and triumphed over two-time former Congress MLA Bharat Bhushan Ashu during the Ludhiana Assembly elections.

His spouse, Sukhchain Kaur Gogi, also contested in the Municipal Corporation elections but was defeated by Congress candidate Inderjit Singh Indi.

In August 2024, Gurpreet Bassi Gogi demolished the foundation stone of a pipeline project in Buddha Nullah, for which he had laid the foundation stone in 2022.

Gogi expressed his discontent regarding the delays in the project, and Speaker Sandhwan had assured strict measures against any obstruction to the cleanup initiative in light of the AAP MLA's concerns.

Prior to his passing, on Friday, he visited Prachin Sheetla Mata Mandir and assured devotees that he would take action against a group of burglars who had stolen silver from the temple just two days earlier.
