Mysterious Death of Punjab AAP Legislator Gogi Due to Bullet Wounds

Chandigarh, Jan 11 (NationPress) The ruling AAP in Punjab mourns the loss of Gurpreet Bassi Gogi, 58, who was a legislator representing Ludhiana (West). He died from bullet injuries at his home under mysterious circumstances late Friday night, as reported by police.

The authorities stated that an autopsy will determine if Bassi took his own life or if it was an accidental shooting.

Joint Police Commissioner Jaskaran Singh Teja confirmed to the media in Ludhiana that Gurpreet Gogi was pronounced dead upon arrival at the Dayanand Medical College and Hospital (DMCH).

Teja mentioned, "According to family members, he accidentally shot himself, resulting in a head injury. Gurpreet Gogi was declared deceased at the hospital, and his body is now in the mortuary at DMC hospital."

The tragic incident took place around 12 a.m., shortly after he returned from a public event.

His wife, who was in another room, heard the gunfire and found him lying in a pool of blood.

He was immediately taken to the hospital with the assistance of security personnel, where he was pronounced dead.

Gogi is survived by his wife Sukhchain Kaur Gogi, a son, and a daughter.

Both Police Commissioner Kuldeep Chahal and Deputy Commissioner Jitendra Jorwal hurried to DMCH following the incident.

The district AAP President Sharanpal Singh Makkar and Commissioner of Police Kuldeep Singh Chahal confirmed the MLA's death.

Gogi joined the AAP in 2022 and notably defeated two-time MLA Bharat Bhushan Ashu during the Assembly elections for the Ludhiana (West) constituency.

Prior to his legislative role, Gogi served as a councillor in the Ludhiana Municipal Corporation twice.

Before his affiliation with AAP, he was the Congress district (Urban) president.

Last year, Gogi had expressed his frustration by destroying the foundation stone of a pipeline project in Buddha Nullah, which he had initially laid in 2022 due to delays.

The Vidhan Sabha speaker Kultar Singh Sandhwan had assured Gogi that strict actions would be taken against any obstacles to the clean-up project following Gogi's complaints.

Just hours prior to his death, he met with Sandhwan and AAP MP Sant Baba Balbir Singh Seechewal in Ludhiana to address a cleanliness initiative for Buddha Nullah.
