Ahmedabad, Jan 22 (NationPress) A tragic incident unfolded at a high-rise residential complex in Ahmedabad’s Bodakdev-Thaltej area, where a woman was fatally shot, and her husband subsequently took his own life. According to police reports on Thursday, the shooting occurred around 10:30 p.m. on Wednesday night at NRI Tower on Judges Bungalow Road.

The individuals involved have been identified as Yashrajsinh Gohil, a Class-I officer with the Gujarat Maritime Board, and his wife Rajeshwari Gohil. Notably, Yashrajsinh was the nephew of former Gujarat Congress president and Rajya Sabha MP Shaktisinh Gohil.

The couple, who had been married for approximately two months, were living in the apartment where the incident took place. Initial investigations suggest that an argument erupted between the couple late at night over an unspecified matter.

During this dispute, Yashrajsinh allegedly used his licensed revolver to shoot Rajeshwari, critically wounding her. He then called the 108 emergency service. Upon the arrival of the ambulance personnel, Rajeshwari was pronounced dead by the attending doctor.

Shortly after the emergency staff departed, Yashrajsinh took his own life in another room by shooting himself in the head with the same firearm, dying instantly.

Residents reported hearing gunfire, which led to panic in the vicinity. Teams from the Vastrapur police station, the Crime Branch, and senior officials, including the Deputy Commissioner of Police, quickly responded to the scene. The apartment complex was sealed off, restricting entry and exit while additional police presence was established. A forensic team later conducted an in-depth examination of the premises.

Congress spokesperson Manish Doshi expressed sorrow over the event, describing it as an extremely tragic loss. “Yashrajsinh Gohil was a young officer who had recently joined the Gujarat Maritime Board after passing the examination and was preparing for the UPSC,” he mentioned, noting that the incident had devastated the family.

A senior police official stated that the investigation is being pursued from all angles. “We are recording statements from family members, neighbors, and other relevant individuals while analyzing forensic evidence. There had been no previous complaints from the couple,” the official confirmed.

Both bodies have been sent for post-mortem examinations. Police indicated that more information regarding the motive and sequence of events is anticipated as the investigation continues, including checks on the firearm license and emergency call records.
