Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Ahmedabad, Jan 22 (NationPress) On Thursday, authorities escalated their investigation regarding the tragic deaths of Yashrajsinh Gohil, the nephew of prominent Congress leader and Rajya Sabha MP Shaktisinh Gohil, along with his wife Rajeshwariba. The couple was discovered deceased with gunshot injuries at their residence located in the Bodakdev area of Ahmedabad late Wednesday night.
According to police reports, the bodies have been dispatched for forensic autopsies to clarify the events leading up to the incident and to ascertain whether the shooting was accidental or intentional.
ACP (A Division) Jayesh Brahmbhatt stated that initial findings, corroborated by the testimony of Yashrajsinh’s mother, suggest a possible accidental discharge of the firearm.
“While the preliminary investigation and the mother’s account indicate that the bullet was fired unintentionally, the forensic autopsy will provide clarity,” Brahmbhatt explained.
Emergency services reported that the 108 ambulance received a call around 11:42 p.m. on Wednesday. A medical team promptly arrived at the couple’s apartment in NRI Tower on Judges Bungalow Road.
Yashrajsinh met the paramedics downstairs and guided them to Flat No. 502 (Block A). Inside the bedroom, paramedics found Rajeshwariba lying on the floor with a gunshot wound to her head, with a revolver positioned nearby. Following a pulse check, she was pronounced dead at the scene.
While the ambulance staff were notifying senior officials, Yashrajsinh allegedly used the same licensed revolver to take his own life inside the flat. His mother and the medical team were present during this tragic event. The ambulance personnel remained at the scene for approximately 15 minutes until police arrived.
Authorities revealed that Yashrajsinh, a Class-I officer with the Gujarat Maritime Board, had only married Rajeshwariba two months prior. The couple resided with his mother.
ACP Brahmbhatt mentioned that the couple had returned home after attending a social event and seemed to be in good spirits.
“The security guard informed us that both appeared cheerful when they returned and went directly to their apartment,” he noted.
Gujarat Congress spokesperson Manish Doshi stated that Yashrajsinh was inspecting his licensed revolver in the bedroom when it accidentally discharged, fatally injuring Rajeshwariba near her neck.
“After the 108 staff declared her dead, Yashrajsinh shot himself in shock,” Doshi recounted.
Law enforcement added that no previous complaints concerning the couple had been filed, and all possibilities—including accident, murder, and suicide—are being considered pending forensic results.
