New Delhi, April 3 (NationPress) Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Member of Parliament Malvinder Singh Kang on Thursday addressed a crucial human rights matter in the Lok Sabha, calling on the Union government to act on its commitment from 2019 to release the Bandi Singhs (Sikh prisoners).

Kang reminded the assembly that in 2019, under the Prime Minister's guidance, the government had declared the release of these prisoners who have been incarcerated for 25-30 years, having served their sentences.

An official notification was also issued back then, yet even after six years, these prisoners remain behind bars.

Emphasizing the humanitarian aspect, Kang pointed out that these individuals have already completed their legal sentences and should not be kept imprisoned any longer.

He stated that their extended imprisonment “is a violation of human rights and contradicts the principles of justice.”

He further urged the government to consider the worsening health conditions of these prisoners and adopt a compassionate approach toward their release.

“The government of India made a promise to the people of Punjab via an official notification in 2019. It is high time to honor that commitment and facilitate the release of the Bandi Singhs,” Kang concluded.
