Is AAP Facing Further Turmoil After Karpada's Resignation?
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Ahmedabad, Feb 14 (NationPress) Amreli District Congress president Pratap Dudhat has strongly criticized the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) in Gujarat this past Saturday, asserting that additional political upheaval is likely within the party following the departure of farmer leader Raju Karpada.
In a video statement, Dudhat warned that after Karpada’s resignation, the next political casualty could be AAP’s state president Isudan Gadhvi.
“Following Raju Karpada, it seems Isudan Gadhvi will also encounter political repercussions,” Dudhat stated. He further targeted AAP MLA Gopal Italia, claiming, “Gopal Italia will clean house in the Aam Aadmi Party and subsequently switch to the Bharatiya Janata Party. The public must recognize this political maneuvering.”
These remarks arise amidst escalating political tensions in Gujarat, especially within the ranks of AAP, which has been dealing with internal dissent and resignations recently.
In response to these allegations, Gadhvi dismissed them as an attempt to tarnish the party’s image. “We hail from humble backgrounds and advocate for farmers. The Congress, historically known for its anti-farmer stance, seeks to defame us,” he stated.
Gadhvi affirmed that AAP is steadfast in its principles and refuted predictions concerning his political future.
This controversy follows the resignation of Raju Karpada, a well-known farmer leader from Muli taluka in the Surendranagar district, which occurred on Wednesday.
After resigning, Karpada held a press conference the next day and made serious allegations against specific AAP leaders.
“Some leaders had the mindset that I should remain incarcerated,” Karpada claimed.
He further alleged, “Certain state leaders attempted to frame me. During my time in jail, the party failed to secure a competent lawyer, and farmers did not receive adequate legal support.”
Karpada’s resignation and the accompanying allegations have increased scrutiny on the internal dynamics of AAP’s Gujarat unit.
The exchange of statements between competing political factions has intensified the political pressure.
