AAP Unveils Second Candidate List: Ojha Takes Over for Sisodia in Patparganj, Discusses 'Safe Seat' for Kejriwal's Key Ally

New Delhi, Dec 9 (NationPress) The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has published its second list featuring 20 candidates for the upcoming Assembly elections in the capital. Although Manish Sisodia, the former Deputy Chief Minister of Delhi and a key aide to Arvind Kejriwal, is included in this list, his constituency has been altered from Patparganj to Jangpura, which is regarded as an AAP stronghold.
Avadh Ojha, a new member of the party and a UPSC coach, will take over Sisodia's position and will contest from the Patparganj seat.
The shift in Sisodia's constituency is significant as he has long held the Patparganj Assembly seat. However, his electoral prospects faced challenges during the 2020 elections, where he narrowly won by just over 3,000 votes, following a closely contested battle. In previous elections in 2013 and 2015, he had emerged victorious by substantial margins.
Avadh Ojha aims to rally support for the ruling party and counteract the anti-incumbency sentiment in the constituency, particularly in light of issues surrounding the former Deputy CM's liquor policies.
Other prominent candidates in the 20-member list include Surendra Bhardwaj, Rakhi Birla, among others.
The Delhi Assembly elections are scheduled for early next year. Despite the Kejriwal-led AAP having faced little challenge over the past decade, the party is now confronting what could be its toughest test yet. The BJP, the primary opposition party, has been persistently criticizing the AAP government over allegations of corruption, asserting that the ruling party’s agenda is solely about protecting the corrupt.
In the second list from AAP, Dinesh Bhardwaj will run from Narela, Surendra Pal Singh Bittu from Timarpur, Mukesh Goyal from Adarsh Nagar, Jasbir Karala from Mundka, Rakesh Jatav from Mangolpuri, Pradeep Mittal from Rohini, Puran Singh Shahane from Chandni Chowk, Parvesh Ratan from Patel Nagar, Rakhi Birla from Madipur, Praveen Kumar from Janakpuri, and Surendra Bhardwaj from Bijwasan.
Additional candidates for the upcoming elections include Joginder Solanki (Palam), Prem Kumar Chauhan (Deoli), Anjana Parcha (Trilokpuri), Vikas Bagga (Krishnanagar), Naveen Chaudhary (Gandhinagar), Jitendra Singh Shanti (Shahdara), and Adil Ahmed Khan (Mustafabad).
