New Delhi, Feb 8 (NationPress) Avadh Ojha, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) candidate for the Patparganj constituency, expressed contentment with his second place finish in a fiercely competitive election.
Patparganj, previously a stronghold for AAP in Delhi, has transitioned to the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in this Assembly election. BJP candidate Ravinder Singh Negi (Ravi Negi) achieved a substantial victory over Ojha, prevailing by a margin exceeding 21,000 votes.
Ojha, a first-time candidate and popular online educator-turned-politician, conveyed a sense of optimism despite the setback.
In a statement to IANS, he noted, "Winning or losing is inconsequential. This was my inaugural political venture, and securing second place makes me quite pleased with this accomplishment."
After nine rounds of the 14-round counting process, Negi had garnered 69,104 votes, sustaining a significant lead over Ojha. Meanwhile, Congress candidate Anil Kumar trailed significantly in third place.
Reflecting on his loss, Ojha recognized the voters' choice and suggested that a shift in leadership may have influenced the outcome. "Perhaps the public felt it was time for a change after a long time. They might have wanted to give another party an opportunity. There is no question of any shortcomings on our part," he remarked.
Despite the defeat, Ojha is committed to remaining active in the political landscape. "We are heading to Patparganj now. First, I will connect with my supporters, and then starting tomorrow, we will strategize and mobilize again," he asserted.
Patparganj had been a bastion for AAP, with senior leader Manish Sisodia holding the seat for two consecutive terms prior to his arrest in the Delhi liquor policy case. However, in this election, the BJP succeeded in altering the political dynamics in the constituency.
