Election Commission Provides Support to Avadh Ojha: AAP Candidate's Vote to Transition from UP to Delhi Before Nominations Close

New Delhi, Jan 13 (NationPress) Aam Aadmi Party candidate from Patparganj constituency Avadh Ojha received a critical boost from the Election Commission (EC) on Monday, which pledged to expedite the transfer of his vote from Greater Noida to Delhi. This move is aimed at facilitating his nomination submission before the impending January 17 deadline.
Speaking to the press post his meeting with EC officials, AAP National Convener Arvind Kejriwal expressed gratitude towards the EC for their prompt attention, indicating that the delays surrounding Ojha's application would be overlooked, thus ensuring a smooth nomination process.
Kejriwal also extended his thanks to the EC for accommodating them on such short notice, highlighting that the AAP delegation voiced concerns regarding the need to suspend the District Election Officer of the New Delhi constituency. This call for suspension was due to the officer's inability to address violations of the Model Code of Conduct in the area.
“The BJP candidate from New Delhi is distributing shoes, jackets, bed sheets, and spectacles, yet the election office has failed to intervene,” Kejriwal claimed.
When AAP representatives confronted the EC regarding these issues, they were shown a report from the District Election Officer (DEO), which stated that no illegal activities were occurring in the constituency.
Alongside Chief Minister Atishi, Punjab CM Bhagwant Singh Mann, MPs Sanjay Singh and Raghav Chadha, as well as Ojha, Kejriwal brought up concerns regarding alleged voter list manipulations in the New Delhi constituency.
“The EC has assured us that no fraudulent votes will be permitted,” Kejriwal stated.
Earlier, during their approach to the EC for assistance for Ojha, the former chief minister accused the Delhi election office of conspiring to make Ojha ineligible for the upcoming February 5 Delhi Assembly elections.
Referring to the ECI manual and its guidelines, Kejriwal noted that the election panel's regulations allow for late applications regarding the shifting of votes to be considered a 'special case.'
The AAP has nominated Ojha for the Patparganj ticket, replacing former Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia, who is now contesting from Jangpura.
