Kejriwal Urges ECI to Take Action Against Parvesh Verma's Alleged Election Violations

New Delhi, Jan 9 (NationPress) In a bold move, the AAP's National Convenor and former Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has called for a ban on BJP candidate Parvesh Verma due to alleged breaches of the Model Code of Conduct. Kejriwal expressed serious concerns about potential manipulation in the electoral rolls for the New Delhi constituency, asserting that without prompt action from the Election Commission of India (ECI), the electoral process could be rendered a “significant farce”.

Responding to these accusations, Verma claimed that Kejriwal's assertions were indicative of his anticipated loss before the elections scheduled for February 5.

After leading a delegation to the ECI, Kejriwal raised alarms over the addition of 13,000 new voters and the removal of 5,500 names in the electoral list between December 15 and January 7 in the New Delhi Assembly seat, where he is contesting against Verma and the Congress candidate, Sandeep Dikshit.

“We have submitted a formal request to the ECI... the ongoing practices threaten to turn the election process into a big farce. Nonetheless, we have complete faith in the ECI and expect decisive action to restore the integrity of the process,” stated Kejriwal.

The AAP leader also called for the dismissal of the District Election Officer and the Electoral Registration Officer for their alleged inaction regarding Verma’s “corrupt practices”, such as conducting job fairs, distributing spectacles, and providing financial assistance to women.

Kejriwal accused his BJP opponent of receiving illicit support from election officials and disregarding the restrictions imposed by the Model Code of Conduct that came into effect following the announcement of the February 5 elections in the national capital.

“There should be a raid on Parvesh Verma's residence. He must be barred from contesting the elections. He is publicly flaunting his actions on social media and employing unfair tactics,” Kejriwal asserted.

In contrast, Verma refuted any allegations of misconduct, suggesting that Kejriwal and his party members are panicking over an impending defeat and resorting to unfounded accusations.

He characterized his initiatives as 'selfless', aimed at connecting youth with job opportunities and assisting underprivileged women through his NGO, claiming these efforts were being exaggerated.

Previously, Kejriwal, accompanied by a team of party leaders including Delhi Chief Minister Atishi, Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, and AAP MP Sanjay Singh, met with Election Commissioners Sukhbir Singh Sandhu and Gyanesh Kumar, urging them to take action against Verma for his alleged violations of the Model Code of Conduct.
