New Delhi, April 20 (NationPress) Delhi Minister Parvesh Verma has recently lashed out at Arvind Kejriwal, the national convener of AAP, labeling him as an 'urban Naxal' after the Delhi High Court dismissed his request for the recusal of a judge in the ongoing excise policy scandal.

In a pivotal decision on Monday, the Delhi High Court rejected a petition from Kejriwal aimed at removing Justice Swarana Kanta Sharma from presiding over the hearings related to the alleged excise policy scam in Delhi.

The bench, headed by Justice Swarana Kanta Sharma, dealt a significant setback to Kejriwal, who is currently embroiled in serious allegations linked to the now-defunct excise policy.

In a forceful reaction, Minister Verma applauded the court's ruling and launched a vehement critique of Kejriwal, questioning his behavior.

Speaking exclusively with IANS, Verma stated that this ruling strengthens public confidence in the judicial process, emphasizing that no one has the authority to choose the judge for their case.

He criticized Kejriwal's actions, noting that while he celebrates favorable judgments from lower courts, he quickly challenges the judiciary when the High Court denies him relief.

Verma accused Kejriwal of initially seeking sympathy by dramatizing situations on social media and now directly questioning the judge and the judicial system.

“Such actions,” Verma remarked, “represent an attempt to manipulate and pressure the judicial process. Our legal system delivers judgments based on concrete evidence, not on personal perceptions. However, when a ruling goes against him, efforts are made to undermine the entire system.”

The BJP leader claimed that Kejriwal has a propensity to cast doubt on constitutional institutions, eroding public trust.

He pointed out the hypocrisy, stating that when the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) governs any state, questions arise about electronic voting machines (EVMs), but when court decisions favor his party, the same process is accepted without dissent.

Discussing the Delhi excise policy case, Verma expressed concern over the significant disruption it has caused to the residents of Delhi, particularly with the establishment of liquor outlets in residential areas, which has raised public alarm.

“Today’s ruling has reinstated confidence among the citizens of Delhi that justice is being administered fairly and impartially,” he added.

Verma noted that when the trial court previously ruled in favor of Kejriwal, he and his associates had celebrated publicly. However, now that the High Court has asserted that judgments must be grounded in solid evidence rather than contrived narratives, they are struggling to accept this decision.

He cautioned Kejriwal and the AAP against making unfounded accusations against the judiciary and the legal system, asserting that such conduct is unacceptable and deserving of strong condemnation.

“Acting like an urban Naxal by launching baseless attacks on our courts is inappropriate,” Verma concluded, reiterating his disapproval.
