New Delhi, Jan 19 (NationPress) BJP candidate from the New Delhi Assembly seat, Parvesh Verma, has called for an Election Commission of India (ECI) investigation into claims that Rs 50 crore allocated from Punjab is being utilized to support the election campaign of his opponent and AAP leader Arvind Kejriwal.
During a press briefing, Verma asserted that Kejriwal is set to face a loss in the upcoming February 5 polls by a margin of 20,000 votes, and that this impending defeat is driving him to employ unlawful tactics and disseminate false narratives regarding threats to his safety.
“Arvind Kejriwal is running his election campaign with a fleet of 50 vehicles and 400 personnel from the Punjab Police, despite previously pledging to forgo additional security and transportation,” stated Parvesh Verma.
The BJP representative alleged that the AAP government in Punjab has sent Rs 50 crore specifically to fund Kejriwal’s campaign in New Delhi and has demanded that the ECI conduct an inquiry.
Verma mentioned that every time Kejriwal canvasses in New Delhi, constituents confront him about employment, electricity, and other critical matters, to which he has no satisfactory responses.
He also noted that Kejriwal, witnessing a decline in his political influence, is unwilling to see Chief Minister Atishi or other AAP leaders like Manish Sisodia and Saurabh Bharadwaj succeed.
“For this reason, they are being distanced from election activities and burdened with press engagements and meetings,” he remarked.
Despite serving as an MLA for 12 years, Verma stated that Kejriwal lacks support in his constituency, adding that whenever the former Chief Minister or his wife Sunita campaign in New Delhi, they reportedly have fewer than 10 local supporters.
Verma recalled that five years ago, on this very date, January 19, Kejriwal had unveiled 10 guarantees, which promised a pollution-free, clean, and safe Delhi, improved facilities in unauthorized colonies, housing for slum residents, access to clean water, world-class education, affordable healthcare, and an efficient public transport system.
“Each of these commitments has failed, and the residents of Delhi are now highlighting the deteriorating conditions of the city,” he concluded.
