Key Takeaways
Chandigarh, March 23 (NationPress) Partap Singh Bajwa, the Leader of the Opposition in Punjab, stated on Monday that the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has been compelled to abandon its earlier stance and detain its own former minister, Laljit Singh Bhullar, due to persistent pressure from the Opposition.
Bajwa expressed his appreciation for Congress workers and Members of Parliament, including Charanjit Singh Channi, Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa, Gurjeet Singh Aujla, and Dharamvira Gandhi, for vigorously advocating the issue in Parliament and ensuring it gained national attention.
He emphasized that Bhullar's arrest was not a voluntary action but rather a result of external influence.
Bajwa alleged that Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann took action only after Union Home Minister Amit Shah suggested that a CBI inquiry would be initiated.
Bajwa has formally contacted the Chief Justice of India, urging the Supreme Court to take suo motu cognizance of the case and mandate a court-monitored investigation to guarantee justice and transparency.
He held CM Mann directly accountable, stating that as the Cooperation Minister, he cannot evade responsibility in the unfortunate death of a young officer, Gagandeep Singh Randhawa.
Bajwa noted that the deceased had previously informed the Managing Director of Warehousing and the Deputy Commissioner of Amritsar about the harassment he faced from Minister Bhullar.
“In spite of these serious grievances, no measures were taken. This administrative negligence and political protection ultimately culminated in a tragic loss of life,” Bajwa remarked.
He reiterated that the truth must be revealed and those responsible, regardless of their station, must face accountability.
Previously, Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) leader and Parliament member Harsimrat Kaur Badal called on Union Home Minister Amit Shah to initiate a CBI probe into the death of Warehousing Corporation district manager Gagandeep Singh Randhawa.
Randhawa tragically took his own life following persistent physical and mental harassment from AAP leader Laljit Bhullar.
Responding to the Home Minister's statement in Parliament, where he asserted that a probe would be launched if Punjab MPs made a formal representation, Harsimrat Badal urged other Punjab MPs to submit similar requests to uncover the truth.
“Considering the severity of the issue and the serious allegations of political interference, it is crucial that the investigation be assigned to an independent agency. Only a CBI investigation can ensure an impartial inquiry and restore trust among the victim’s family and the public,” she articulated.
