Chandigarh, March 22 (NationPress) Partap Singh Bajwa, the Leader of the Opposition in the Punjab Vidhan Sabha, participated in a protest on Sunday with Congress workers, showing support for the family of Gagandeep Singh Randhawa, the District Manager of the Punjab State Warehousing Corporation, who tragically took his own life and alleged harassment and coercion by a minister.

Bajwa emphasized that “this is not just a struggle for one family, but a broader fight for justice, accountability, and the safeguarding of honest officials in Punjab.”

He pointed out that serious accusations have arisen suggesting that Randhawa faced illegal confinement and extortion.

“The evidence clearly indicates cognizable offences, and the law must proceed unimpeded,” he stated.

Bajwa insisted on invoking sections of the Prevention of Corruption Act against the accused, Laljit Singh Bhullar, a former minister, for allegedly abusing his official capacity to intimidate a public servant into engaging in illicit conduct.

Moreover, Bajwa highlighted a concerning trend where responsible authorities seem to have neglected to report offences of attempted extortion to the police, as per Section 239 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (formerly Section 202 of the IPC).

Stressing that accountability should not be selective, Bajwa asserted, “The responsibility extends beyond one individual. The Managing Director of Warehousing, the Deputy Commissioner of Amritsar, the Chief Secretary, and Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann should all be scrutinized for negligence.”

He further noted that CM Mann, who also oversees the Cooperation portfolio under which the Warehousing Department operates, bears direct responsibility for accountability in this issue.

Bajwa raised alarms regarding the investigation, questioning why the police have yet to confiscate the mobile devices of Bhullar and his alleged accomplices.

He demanded the collection of mobile tower dump data to identify all individuals who were at the location where the officer was purportedly assaulted.

Additionally, he called for the prompt securing of CCTV footage from Bhullar’s premises to preserve vital evidence.

Bajwa warned that the FIR should not be manipulated to exonerate the accused through legal loopholes but should be constructed into a robust case to ensure justice and act as a firm deterrent against future abuse of power.

“The Congress will not permit this issue to be swept under the rug. We will persist in this fight with unwavering determination until justice is served. Justice must be comprehensive, not selective,” Bajwa concluded.
