Jaipur, Oct 10 (NationPress) Udaipur is making significant strides in tackling its traffic challenges, as Artificial Intelligence (AI) is set to govern traffic signals at the bustling Fatehpura intersection, as per officials.
This AI-powered traffic management system kicked off its trial on Friday, ushering in a new phase in smart urban transportation in Rajasthan.
The system employs high-resolution cameras and sensors to track vehicle movements across all four lanes.
By analyzing real-time traffic patterns, the AI will automatically switch to a green signal for the lane with the most vehicles, facilitating smoother traffic flow and reducing wait times.
In cases where a lane has no vehicles, the system will change signals in just five seconds, preventing the delays typically associated with fixed-timer traffic lights.
In a remarkable feature, the AI is programmed to detect the sounds of ambulances and fire trucks.
Upon hearing these sirens, it will promptly turn the signal green for that route, ensuring that emergency vehicles can pass without obstruction.
The entire system is linked to a mobile application, enabling real-time surveillance and management by traffic authorities.
As stated by Traffic Deputy Superintendent of Police Ashok Anjana, traffic congestion sees a sharp rise during peak morning and evening hours.
"The AI system will effectively clear congested lanes and enhance traffic flow. Based on the outcomes from the Fatehpura intersection, we aim to implement it at other vital junctions throughout Udaipur," he remarked.
The pilot project includes the installation of high-resolution cameras and intelligent sensors, with an estimated cost of nearly Rs 10 lakh per intersection.
If successful, this initiative could transform traffic management in Udaipur, leading to decreased congestion, fuel savings, and improved emergency response times.
