Lucknow, Sep 29 (NationPress) The President of the Uttar Pradesh Congress, Ajai Rai, expressed his outrage on Monday regarding a reported death threat aimed at Rahul Gandhi, the Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, allegedly issued by the BJP spokesperson and former ABVP leader Printu Mahadev. He emphasized that this incident highlights a growing 'hatred mindset' within the ruling party.
In an interview with IANS, Ajai Rai stated, “Their hateful mindset is being exposed now. These individuals are in power in many states and at the Centre. This is just one example of their perilous thinking. A former ABVP leader issuing a death threat to Rahul Gandhi illustrates how far they are prepared to go. With this same mentality, they assassinated Mahatma Gandhi, Indira Gandhi, and now they are threatening Rahul Gandhi.”
He continued, “However, the entire nation stands with Rahul Gandhi. If they wish to silence him, they will have to confront thousands of Congress workers. The people will respond to this hatred. Rahul Gandhi has raised the issue of 'Vote Chori' (vote theft), and their anxiety is becoming evident through such threats and statements.”
On Sunday, Congress General Secretary K C Venugopal reached out to Home Minister Amit Shah concerning the controversial remarks made by the former ABVP leader during a televised debate, warning that a lack of prompt action would be seen as complicity and the normalization of violence against Rahul Gandhi.
Additionally, he commented on the incident where Pakistan Cricket Board Chief Mohsin Naqvi exited the stadium following India's refusal to accept the Asia Cup 2025 trophy from him.
Rai remarked, “The entire country is celebrating this victory. India has triumphed over Pakistan three times consecutively to secure the title. The nation takes pride in our players.”
Regarding Team India captain Suryakumar Yadav's decision to donate his complete match fee to the victims of the Pahalgam terror attack, Rai stated, “I hold our sportspersons in high regard. They play for the country and bring us immense pride. I want to commend them not only for their victory but also for their compassion.”
In response to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s post on X, where he stated, “Operation Sindoor on the games field. The outcome is the same – India wins! Congrats to our cricketers,” Rai replied, “Our cricketers have exhibited true nationalism through their performance. They have claimed the Asia Cup, and I hope they continue to win the World Cup.”
Rai also supported Rahul Gandhi’s recent comments alleging that the people and culture of Ladakh are under siege from the BJP and RSS.
“Rahul Gandhi is absolutely correct. The arrest of Sonam Wangchuk is undemocratic. He is a well-respected environmentalist who consistently advocates for the nation’s interests. Imposing the NSA on him is intolerable. His voice is being stifled, which contradicts the essence of democracy,” Rai asserted.
Sonam Wangchuk, arrested in Jodhpur, Rajasthan, on Friday, is among over 50 individuals detained for allegedly taking part in the riots that escalated on September 24. Wangchuk has since denounced the violence and concluded his hunger strike in protest.
