Is There a Need for an In-Depth Investigation into Ajit Pawar's Plane Crash?
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Mumbai, Feb 18 (NationPress) In the midst of a storm surrounding the demise of former Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister and NCP leader Ajit Pawar, his son Jay Pawar has called for a comprehensive and unbiased investigation into the tragic plane crash.
The incident, which occurred on January 28 involving a Learjet 45XR operated by VSR Ventures, prompted Jay Pawar to express profound concerns regarding safety measures and the effectiveness of the current investigation.
In a social media post, Jay Pawar stressed the necessity for transparency and swift regulatory actions.
Regarding the Black Box integrity, he mentioned that black boxes are difficult to destroy in aircraft incidents, asserting that the public deserves the "complete, transparent, and indisputable truth".
He urged for an immediate suspension of all flights operated by VSR Ventures and requested an impartial, thorough inquiry into possible "serious misconduct" related to the aircraft's maintenance.
This plea comes as the Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB) and the DGCA are conducting the investigation into the crash that took place during a landing attempt at Baramati Airport under challenging weather conditions.
Jay Pawar’s demand for a probe coincides with the NCP's request for a CBI investigation.
A delegation led by Deputy Chief Minister Sunetra Pawar, joined by party working president Praful Patel, state president Sunil Tatkare, and youth leader Parth Pawar, met with Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Tuesday, seeking a CBI inquiry into Ajit Pawar's death.
Tatkare stated that the Chief Minister assured the delegation that the state government would communicate with Union Home Minister Amit Shah, promising that steps would be taken to facilitate the CBI investigation as per the NCP's request.
The NCP has highlighted various "serious irregularities and suspicious circumstances" surrounding the incident, including last-minute alterations in the flight crew, requiring a review of operational decision-making and authorizations, inconsistencies in Air Traffic Control (ATC) communications, and runway clearance sequences.
The party also raised issues regarding the functionality and reliability of crucial onboard safety alert systems.
Previously, NCP-SP legislator Rohit Pawar demanded the resignation of Civil Aviation Minister K Rammohan Naidu and top officials from the DGCA due to the ongoing controversy surrounding Ajit Pawar's death in the Baramati plane crash.
At a press briefing, he alleged a "nexus" between the ministry, DGCA, and VSR Ventures, asserting that the current leadership is biased and shielding the company.
Rohit Pawar also insisted that the case should be classified as culpable homicide instead of "accidental death" and called for a formal FIR to be lodged against the owners of VSR Ventures and the technical personnel who certified the flight's airworthiness.
He reiterated the demand for a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) inquiry, arguing that due to the involvement of a high-ranking constitutional authority (the Deputy CM), the state CID lacks the "technical expertise" and "political neutrality" needed to investigate the Union-controlled aviation sector.
