Guwahati, Jan 28 (NationPress) Assam's opposition figure and Sivasagar MLA Akhil Gogoi launched a fierce critique against the All Assam Students’ Union (AASU) and the Assam Sahitya Sabha on Wednesday. He accused these organizations of failing to live up to their promises of safeguarding Assam’s interests and instead engaging in covert political activities.

While addressing journalists, Gogoi challenged AASU’s assertion of being a vigilant protector of the state's issues, stating that their public images did not correspond with their actual conduct. "If they claim to be so alert and vigilant, where is that vigilance on crucial issues affecting Assam?" he questioned, raising concerns about the student body's credibility.

Gogoi also targeted the BJP-led Assam government regarding the implementation of the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA), claiming that this law has intensified the influx of Bangladeshi immigrants into the state. He expressed worries over the management of Clause 6 of the Assam Accord, alleging that significant reports related to it have yet to be sent to the Centre.

According to him, AASU advisor Samujjal Kumar Bhattacharya, who is involved in the Clause 6 discussions, has been having regular talks with Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma. Gogoi claimed that despite important documents being ready, member secretary Satyendra Garg has not forwarded the reports to Delhi for further action.

Escalating his criticism, the Raijor Dal leader accused Bhattacharya and Utpal Sharma of holding discreet meetings with Agriculture Minister Atul Bora and the Chief Minister while publicly promoting transparency.

Gogoi charged them with fostering communal tendencies under the guise of nationalism and adopting a lenient stance towards Hindutva politics.

He argued that such positions represent a warped version of nationalism and described the current iteration of AASU’s regionalism as "adulterated," devoid of authentic regionalist principles.
