Guwahati, March 11 (NationPress) Akhil Gogoi, the president of Raijor Dal and Sivasagar MLA, vehemently criticized the Congress on Wednesday, asserting that his party is fully equipped to challenge the historic political entity, reminiscent of Iran's bold stance against the United States in international relations.
Addressing the media, Gogoi took aim at Gaurav Gogoi, the president of the Assam Pradesh Congress Committee, in light of the recent discussions about potential alliances between Congress and Raijor Dal ahead of the forthcoming Assembly elections.
In a powerful analogy, he stated that Raijor Dal is prepared to politically confront Congress if the situation demands it. “Just as Iran stood up to the United States, we at Raijor Dal are ready to take on the Congress,” he expressed, signaling his party's commitment to contest Congress in the electoral landscape.
Gogoi further emphasized that Raijor Dal is not entering the electoral fray as merely a symbolic participant, but with the clear objective of securing victories and enhancing its political presence in Assam. “Our aim is not to participate to lose; we are contesting with the goal of winning,” he declared.
The leader of Raijor Dal also highlighted that his party will uphold its political dignity. “Our self-respect is paramount. We will not trade our dignity for any political alliance,” Akhil Gogoi asserted.
In a direct message to Congress leaders, he warned them not to underestimate Raijor Dal. “Do not view us as a weak nation in global politics like Iran. We are fully capable of engaging in political battles,” he stated emphatically.
Gogoi's remarks came shortly after Gaurav Gogoi mentioned that Congress had earnestly pursued an electoral alliance with Akhil Gogoi in anticipation of the upcoming Assembly elections, but discussions did not yield a favorable outcome.
In a social media post, Gaurav Gogoi noted that Congress had aimed to establish a united opposition platform that aligned with the desires of the people of Assam, who wish to see opposition forces contest elections collectively.
“Considering the aspirations of the people of Assam, we aimed to ally with Raijor Dal to ensure a united front in the upcoming Assembly elections,” he stated.
However, he acknowledged that despite numerous attempts and discussions, the two parties were unable to create what he referred to as a “conducive and hopeful environment” for a partnership.
