Srinagar, March 24 (NationPress) Human rights advocate Tasleema Akhter, who serves as the Chairperson of the Association of Terror Victims in Kashmir, presented a vigorous counter-argument to Pakistan's claims during the 61st session of the United Nations Human Rights Council in Geneva.

In an exclusive interview with IANS on Tuesday, Akhter asserted that Pakistan-Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (PoJK) is an integral part of India, emphasizing the significant disparities in governance and human rights between the two territories.

"Pakistan-Occupied Jammu and Kashmir is inherently a part of India's Jammu and Kashmir. We have consistently highlighted this fact and will continue to do so. If you examine the differences between Indian Jammu and Kashmir and Pakistan-Occupied Jammu and Kashmir, you will find that the fundamental rights of the populace are virtually nonexistent there. There is a complete lack of freedom of speech," she stated emphatically.

Akhter highlighted the effective democratic framework in Jammu and Kashmir, contrasting it with the oppression that prevails across the border.

"The system is operating seamlessly here. The political landscape is functioning in a markedly different and efficient manner. Each entity is fulfilling its duties, the Army is managing its responsibilities, and social activists are contributing positively. There are no interruptions, and I believe this is a commendable scenario. Conversely, in Pakistan, speaking out for fundamental rights can lead to imprisonment," she remarked.

She also cautioned about Pakistan's efforts to disseminate false information.

"Their ISI is unfounded, and the global community is aware of how Pakistan supports terrorism and commits heinous acts in Kashmir. It is our inherent right to voice the concerns of Jammu and Kashmir..." Akhter asserted.

Earlier, she extended greetings for Eid and highlighted the 2025 Pahalgam terror attack.

"Firstly, as Eid is being celebrated, I wish everyone a joyous Eid. This time, our discussion centered around the tragic incident in Pahalgam in 2025, where unarmed civilians lost their lives, and we addressed that matter," she stated.

Akhter's participation in Geneva was regarded as a formidable response to Pakistan's propaganda, reinforcing India's stance on Jammu and Kashmir while drawing attention to the struggles of terrorism victims.

At this international platform, Akhter's statements resonated with urgency and determination, reminding the global audience of the human toll of cross-border militancy and the resilience of Kashmiri voices advocating for peace and justice.

Point of View

It is essential to recognize the complex narratives surrounding Jammu and Kashmir. Tasleema Akhter's emphatic defense of India's governance contrasts sharply with the situation in Pakistan-Occupied Kashmir.
