Dibrugarh, Jan 30 (NationPress) On Friday, Union Home Minister Amit Shah marked a significant day for Assam by laying the foundation stone for the anticipated second complex of the Assam Legislative Assembly in Dibrugarh. This initiative is designed to bolster governance and enhance administrative accessibility for residents in Upper Assam.
During a public gathering at Khanikar, HM Shah stated that the new Assembly complex, paired with the MLA hostel, is expected to greatly improve the ease of governance in the area upon its completion.
He emphasized that this development would bring the advantages of effective governance closer to the Upper Assam populace, thereby narrowing the gap between the administration and its citizens.
Officials have projected that the cost of the new Assembly complex and MLA hostel will range between Rs 284 crore and Rs 300 crore. The architectural design will harmonize traditional Assamese elements with modern conveniences, ensuring both cultural representation and operational efficiency.
This venture aims to facilitate the decentralization of administrative functions and enhance institutional infrastructure in Upper Assam.

He mentioned that the new Assembly complex would particularly benefit districts like Tinsukia, Dhemaji, and other regions in Upper Assam by enhancing accessibility and administrative collaboration.
Additionally, during the same event, HM Shah inaugurated Phase I of the Khanikar Multi-Disciplinary Sports Complex, which was developed at an expenditure of approximately Rs 238 crore. This facility is hailed as Assam’s largest sports complex, featuring a modern indoor stadium and a swimming pool, among other amenities.
The objective of this project is to foster a sports culture and nurture young talent from the region.
HM Shah remarked that the establishment of world-class sports infrastructure would open new avenues for youth while helping to identify and develop sporting talent at the grassroots level.
His visit to Dibrugarh is part of a broader itinerary of official and developmental activities in Assam. The events saw attendance from senior state ministers, elected representatives, and officials, all under stringent security measures.
The state government positions the new Assembly complex and sports infrastructure as crucial milestones in Assam’s continuous efforts to enhance governance, spur regional development, and empower youth.
