Guwahati, Feb 11 (NationPress) The Chief Minister of Assam, Himanta Biswa Sarma, engaged in a meeting with Singapore's Foreign Affairs Minister, Vivian Balakrishnan, on Tuesday, where they explored opportunities for enhancing relations between Assam and Singapore during his two-day diplomatic visit.

In a post on X, Sarma expressed: “It was a pleasure to connect with the Minister for Foreign Affairs of Singapore, H.E @VivianBala. We discussed ways to strengthen the current partnership between the State of Assam and the Republic of Singapore within the framework of India’s Act East Policy.”

The Chief Minister also met with the executives of ITE Education Services.

Sarma noted: “I had a productive meeting with Mr Suresh Natarajan, the CEO of ITE Education Services, and his team. Their vision to enhance technical education and workforce readiness resonates with Assam’s ambition to cultivate a substantial skilled workforce. My visit enabled me to assess the caliber of faculty and specialized labs in aerospace, smart manufacturing, and electronics, which are crucial for aligning industry needs with graduate skills.”

“In the upcoming months, we anticipate closer cooperation between Assam Skill University and ITE. Additionally, we are investigating how to utilize their expertise in establishing a World Skill Centre in Assam alongside the private sector,” the Chief Minister elaborated.

Earlier that day, Sarma met with the President of Singapore, Tharman Shanmugaratnam, to discuss the state's potential as a significant global investment hub.

Sarma stated: “It was a privilege to meet the President of Singapore, H.E @Tharman_S, today. Our dialogue included ongoing collaborative initiatives, particularly emphasizing Assam’s role as a fundamental element in the India-Singapore Comprehensive Partnership. I also reminisced about His Excellency’s visit to Assam in 2022.”

“We truly value Singapore’s collaboration in #AdvantageAssam2 and are eager to fortify our partnership in emerging domains such as semiconductors, green energy, and advanced technology,” the CM added.

During his two-day visit to Singapore, the Assam CM also conversed with leaders in the semiconductor sector.

Sarma urged Singaporean industry representatives to become stakeholders in the upcoming semiconductor manufacturing facility in the Jagiroad area of the Morigaon district of Assam.
