New Delhi, March 12 (NationPress) Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Wednesday met with the European Union Ambassador to India, Herve Delphin, at his official residence in the national capital.

During this meeting, Sarma expressed his sincere appreciation to the EU Ambassador and, through him, to the other Heads of the Mission from Member countries for their invaluable support during the recently held Advantage Assam Summit 2.0 in Guwahati.

The Chief Minister and the EU Ambassador engaged in a constructive dialogue regarding potential collaborations in sectors such as clean energy, semiconductors, higher education, skill development, and the aromatics and fragrances industry.

As per a statement, the top diplomat informed the Chief Minister about the European Union's interest in establishing an EU Programme Management Office in Guwahati. Sarma welcomed this initiative and assured the Assam Government’s complete support to it under the guidance of the Ministry of External Affairs, Government of India.

In a post on his X handle, Chief Minister Sarma stated, “Today in New Delhi, I conveyed my deepest gratitude to @EUAmbIndia H.E Herve Delphin and, through him, to the other Heads of the Mission for their support at #AdvantageAssam2. I had a productive discussion on collaborative prospects in clean energy, semiconductors, higher education, skill development, and in the aromatics and fragrances industry.” He added, “I’m pleased to learn that the EU is exploring the possibility of opening an EU Programme Management Office in Guwahati, and Assam will fully support it under the Union government’s external affairs ministry.”

The recent investment summit, Advantage Assam 2.0, garnered investments totaling at least Rs 4.5 lakh crore.

“Sectors like hydrocarbons, which is our strength, along with mines and minerals, have attracted the majority of investments. We are now concentrating on transforming Assam into a developed industrial state, similar to its status in 1947. Assam was the nation’s first industrial state,” Sarma previously stated.

According to him, the success of the summit underscores Assam's burgeoning potential as an investment hub. “With its rich natural resources, strategic geographic location, and progressive policies, the state is consistently striving to position itself as a significant player in India's industrial arena. The substantial investment inflow is anticipated to enhance employment opportunities, infrastructure development, and overall economic growth in the region,” Sarma concluded.
