Guwahati, Dec 22 (NationPress) Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Monday conveyed his profound concern regarding the recent acts of violence targeting Hindus in Bangladesh, including the harrowing incident of a Hindu man being burnt alive. He cautioned that these occurrences bear significant implications for India's northeastern region.

Addressing the situation in the neighboring country, CM Sarma highlighted that the atrocities against the Hindu community have escalated and are not to be overlooked.

"We are witnessing the troubling events unfolding in Bangladesh. Hindus are facing severe atrocities, and there are alarming incidents that have rattled the region's conscience," remarked the Chief Minister in response to recent reports of horrific violence directed at minority community members.

He also voiced concern over statements made by certain leaders currently in power in Bangladesh, claiming that they have openly expressed intentions to exert control over India's northeastern region.

"Such statements are perilous and irresponsible. We are closely monitoring the situation in Bangladesh with grave concern," he stated.

Emphasizing Assam's enduring challenges, the Chief Minister pointed out that the state has historically been impacted by infiltration from across the Bangladesh border.

He asserted that unchecked infiltration poses demographic, social, and security challenges, especially for border states like Assam.

"Infiltration has affected Assam at different points in time. Therefore, we must maintain vigilant oversight of the entire issue," he emphasized, noting that the current developments in Bangladesh necessitate increased vigilance.

The Chief Minister stressed the importance of heightened alertness along the international border and closer monitoring of the situation to protect the interests of northeastern states.

He asserted that Assam and the rest of the Northeast must remain cautious given the evolving regional dynamics.

CM Sarma further indicated that peace and stability in neighboring countries are crucial for fostering harmony in border regions.

However, he warned that any form of extremism, violence against minorities, or hostile intentions toward India's territory would be met with resolute action.

Reiterating his government's position, the Chief Minister affirmed that Assam will continue to collaborate closely with central agencies to ensure border security and maintain internal stability.

"We must remain more vigilant than ever," CM Sarma concluded, stressing that national security and the safeguarding of indigenous interests are top priorities for the state government.
