Guwahati, April 7 (NationPress) Assam Congress MLA Abdur Rahim Ahmed has expressed his discontent regarding the party's operations and has resigned from the district-level Political Affairs Committee (PAC). Ahmed, who serves the Barpeta Assembly constituency, addressed a letter to Bhupen Borah, president of the Assam Pradesh Congress Committee, indicating that resolutions made during the meetings of party leaders at both state and district levels have not been acted upon.
He highlighted ongoing conflicts concerning the selection of block committee presidents. Ahmed stated that during a PAC meeting, it was resolved that the appointment of new block presidents would only occur following adequate consultation with the MLA of the relevant constituency. However, he asserts that this protocol was disregarded, leading to his resignation.
In his correspondence, Ahmed mentioned: “I wish to inform you that I am resigning from the District PAC Committee. As per the resolution made during the District PAC meeting on 04/01/2025, the appointment of contested block presidents was to occur in consultation with the Hon’ble MP of Dhubri HPC, the MLA, and the former MP of Barpeta HPC. Unfortunately, these appointments were not carried out according to that agreement.”
He further claimed that even decisions reached in state-level meetings were overlooked.
“In the State PAC Committee meeting held on 30/03/2025, it was agreed that contested block presidents would be appointed after discussions with local MPs and MLAs. Additionally, the AICC General Secretary and Assam PCC in-charge had instructed the PCC President to ensure these appointments were made in consultation with local leaders. However, no satisfactory results have been achieved thus far,” the legislator added.
Ending his letter, Ahmed wrote, “Thus, I am resigning from the District PAC Committee and kindly request you to accept my resignation. I would appreciate your understanding.”
