Assam Governor Pays Homage to Srimanta Sankardev at Batadrava Than

Guwahati, Dec 5 (NationPress) The Governor of Assam, Lakshman Prasad Acharya, during the last segment of his two-day visit to Nagaon, offered his respects to Srimanta Sankardev at Batadrava Than on Thursday, as reported by officials.
He also reviewed the progress of the Batadrava Than development initiative and engaged in discussions with relevant officials.
While offering his prayers at the site, the Governor explored various features of the project designed to transform Batadrava Than into a prominent tourist destination and cultural hub.
Expressing his aspirations, the Governor stated that this location holds tremendous cultural significance for Assam and is likely to draw many devotees in the coming years.
During his stay, Acharya assessed the advancement of the major project and inquired about its projected completion date. He urged PWD officials to accelerate the work to ensure the center can be inaugurated for devotees as soon as possible.
The officials updated him on various facilities under construction, such as a 500-seat yoga garden, a skill development center, a research center, a digital library, a kala kendra, and a Nat Ghar.
The Governor praised the traditional interior design, which highlights the teachings and cultural contributions of Srimanta Sankardev, reflecting the Than's profound spiritual heritage and cultural importance.
Acharya also visited the Maha Mrityunjay Temple and performed his puja there.
As part of his tour, the Governor also visited the Srimanta Sankardev Mission Blind School in Barhampur, where he interacted with the students.
In his conversation with them, the Governor praised their capabilities and noted that with appropriate guidance and empathy, Divyangjans can achieve remarkable accomplishments. He emphasized the collective responsibility that is crucial in creating an inclusive atmosphere where Divyangjans feel empowered and integrated into the broader human society.
Subsequently, the Governor convened a review meeting with the district administration and heads of departments in Nagaon. He evaluated the progress of various schemes initiated by the Central and State governments.
He also reviewed the Amrit Sarovar project, urging the responsible officials to implement measures for planting saplings, establishing shade, installing solar lights, and setting up flagpoles at all project sites.
Batadrava Than, the first Namghar or Than established, was founded in 1468 by Assamese saint and social reformer Srimanta Sankardev when he was merely 19 years old. The rituals at this Than are conducted according to Purush sanghati conventions. This pilgrimage site spans 16 bighas and is located in Batadrava, approximately 16 kilometers from Nagaon city.
