Assam Governor Initiates Program to Support Health and Education for Disadvantaged Youth

Guwahati, Dec 9 (NationPress) The Governor of Assam, Lakshman Prasad Acharya, officially inaugurated “Mission Child Health and Literacy” in Guwahati on Monday.

This initiative is designed to tackle crucial challenges related to child health and literacy within the state of Assam, emphasizing the essential role that children play in determining the nation’s future. The project will prioritize the provision of high-quality education and healthcare resources to disadvantaged children, particularly those enrolled in government schools.

Governor Acharya emphasized that the future strength of a nation rests on its education and the overall well-being, both physical and mental, of its children.

He stated, “We must guide our children to the right path and provide them with the necessary support to overcome the challenges they face.”

Governor Acharya acknowledged the Rotary Club of Guwahati Smart City for their commendable efforts in addressing the disparities in healthcare and education through active participation in this project.

In line with the cultural value of altruism, the Governor remarked, “Our Indian culture teaches us to live for the welfare of others. Through acts of selflessness and service, we can build a healthy and prosperous society.”

The Governor expressed his belief that such initiatives would enable Assam to construct a stronger and brighter future.

He articulated that this movement would significantly transform the lives of children.

The event attracted notable attendees, including MLA Guwahati East Sidharth Bhattacharya, Rotary Club of Guwahati Smart City President Dr. B.P. Todi, and several other distinguished guests.

Additionally, Governor Acharya toured various aspects of the project aimed at converting Batadrava Than in Nagaon district into a notable tourist destination and cultural hub.

The Governor remarked that the site holds tremendous cultural significance for Assam, with the potential to draw numerous visitors in the future.

Acharya reviewed the project's progress and inquired about its anticipated completion date. He urged the PWD officials to accelerate the work, ensuring that the center could be inaugurated for devotees as soon as possible.

The Batadrava Than, recognized as the first Namghar or Than established, was founded in 1468 by the Assamese saint and social reformer Srimanta Sankardev at the young age of 19. The rites at this Than are conducted following Purush sanghati traditions. The pilgrimage site, spanning 16 bighas, is located in Batadrava, approximately 16 kilometers from Nagaon city.
