Guwahati, May 7 (NationPress) Assam Police successfully confiscated narcotics valued at Rs 9.5 crore and apprehended three individuals involved in drug trafficking, including a woman, during two distinct operations, officials reported on Wednesday.
A representative from the Assam Police disclosed that actionable intelligence regarding the illegal shipment of drugs from Silchar (in southern Assam) to Guwahati via the Silchar-Coimbatore Express train prompted the deployment of a specialized team from the Panbazar Police station at the Guwahati railway station on Wednesday. Upon the train’s arrival, a female suspect was identified and taken into custody.
After adhering to legal protocols and with independent witnesses present, the search yielded the recovery of 20,000 highly addictive methamphetamine tablets, with an estimated value of Rs 5 crore, along with a mobile phone and Rs 1,000 in cash. The suspected trafficker, identified as Parvina Khatun Bibi (31), is a resident of Sadialer Khuti village located in West Bengal’s Cooch Behar district.
In a separate operation on Tuesday night, Assam Police arrested two additional drug traffickers at Salchapra in Silchar, within the Cachar district, seizing 847 grams of heroin and 4.035 kg of opium from them. The combined value of these drugs is estimated at Rs 4.5 crore.
