Assam Rifles and Security Forces Confiscate 19 Firearms in Manipur Since January 6

Kolkata, Jan 13 (NationPress) In a persistent effort to disarm individuals in the conflict-ridden region of Manipur, the Army along with other security organizations have successfully recovered 19 weapons, ammunition, and various other military-grade supplies over the past few days. Notably, an AK-56 rifle was among the confiscated items, as reported by the Army.
"These recoveries took place in both the hill and valley districts including Thoubal, Kangpokpi, Churachandpur, and Kakching. On January 6, intelligence-driven operations were executed by the Assam Rifles and the Manipur Police in the vicinity of Irong village in Thoubal district. Subsequently, on January 9, operations were conducted in Sekmaijin located in Kakching district. These efforts resulted in the retrieval of a Self Loading Rifle, a Single Barrel Rifle, an improvised mortar, three 9 mm pistols, grenades, ammunition, and other military supplies," stated a senior official from the Army's Eastern Command in Kolkata.
Joint operations were also undertaken on January 8 in the region of Saheibung peak, approximately 5 km north of Kotlen village in Kangpokpi district. This raid successfully led to the recovery of a 7.62 mm rifle, a 5.56 mm rifle, a .32 mm pistol, a single barrel rifle, two tube launchers, and additional ammunition.
In the Jiribam district, the Assam Rifles and Manipur Police acted on specific intelligence to initiate a joint operation on January 9 in the vicinity of Jakurador. This operation resulted in the confiscation of explosives. Just two days later, another operation in the area of Old Gelmol Village within Churachandpur district yielded a 7.62 mm AK-56 rifle, a .303 rifle, a 9 mm pistol, a single barrel rifle, three 12 mm single barrel rifles, and grenades, according to the official.
The weapons and other items uncovered during these joint operations have been transferred to the Manipur Police. This underscores the effective collaboration between the Indian Army and various law enforcement agencies, highlighting their commitment to ensuring the safety and security of the region.
