Mumbai, May 30 (NationPress) The Maharashtra head of the Samajwadi Party, Abu Asim Azmi, raised significant concerns on Friday regarding the sudden cessation of Operation Sindoor, India’s military action following the Pahalgam attack. He criticized the Central government, calling the operation incomplete.
His remarks are set against a backdrop of internal conflict within Congress, particularly after notable figures like Shashi Tharoor and former External Affairs Minister Salman Khurshid commended the Modi administration's handling of Operation Sindoor and the repeal of Article 370. Both individuals participated in recent all-party delegations abroad, facing backlash from critics who branded them as super spokespersons for the BJP.
“Why was Operation Sindoor not carried to completion? Why did the government halt it prematurely? The terror attack in Pahalgam had severe consequences for many women whose sindoor (vermilion) was taken away. We were fully prepared for a military response, so what caused the ceasefire to be announced within a day? There was no substantial retaliation against Pakistan. The government must exhibit decisiveness,” stated Azmi.
Azmi also addressed Khurshid’s comments made during discussions with Indonesian think tanks, where he noted, “Kashmir has faced significant issues for an extended period. This was partly reflected in Article 370 of the Constitution, which gave the impression of Kashmir being distinct from the rest of the nation. However, with the abrogation of Article 370, that separation has been resolved.”
On the subject of Article 370, Azmi asserted that the constitutional process was not appropriately followed, highlighting that there was no Assembly at the time, which contributed to the flawed passage of the amendment. “That procedure was definitely problematic,” he added.
“Who claims that residents are free to move about in J&K? We were promised that the removal of Article 370 and the implementation of demonetization would eliminate terrorism. Yet, news of conflicts between terrorists and armed forces remains prevalent. I fail to see any advantages in the abrogation of Article 370,” Azmi remarked.
He further commented on the rising divides within Congress following Tharoor’s endorsement of the Modi government, stating, “It seems everyone has become advocates for power.”
In response to Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy’s call for clarity regarding the outcomes of Operation Sindoor, Azmi remarked, “The government needs to clarify the Rafale controversy and the achievements of this operation. We could have mounted a stronger response against Pakistan.
