New Delhi, May 7 (NationPress) Senior Congress leader Rashid Alvi on Wednesday expressed his support for the Indian armed forces' successful counter-terror initiative, Operation Sindoor, aimed at avenging the Pahalgam massacre. However, he voiced his frustration regarding what he termed a “missed golden opportunity” to seize back Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK).
While recognizing the opposition's solidarity with the government concerning national security issues, Alvi stressed that the operation could have advanced further regarding its strategic goals.
"At this moment, we await more details about the operation. It has been our consistent stance that the nation, including the entire opposition, aligns with the Government of India. Yet, we were anticipating that this would be the perfect moment to target Pakistan-occupied Kashmir. It was indeed a golden opportunity to reclaim PoK, and we should have taken action," he stated.
Alvi also referenced Pakistan Army chief General Asim Munir, who has been implicated by Indian intelligence in orchestrating the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack that resulted in 26 fatalities. "We wanted Asim Munir to be brought to Delhi in chains, the individual responsible for this attack, as indicated by multiple sources. He deserves punishment, but that hasn’t occurred yet," he remarked.
Nevertheless, the Congress leader downplayed fears of escalation. "I believe this operation will not lead to war. It mirrors the scale and nature of previous surgical strikes. I see no reason to suspect it will escalate into a full-blown conflict," he asserted.
Operation Sindoor was a targeted military action executed by the Indian Army, focusing on nine terrorist infrastructure sites across Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir.
This operation was closely overseen by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, NSA Ajit Doval, and senior military officials.
The spokesperson for the Indian Army highlighted the operation's precision, stating: "Our efforts have been focused and accurate. We have exclusively targeted terrorist camps responsible for planning and executing attacks against India."
