Guwahati/Agartala, Jan 24 (NationPress) A total of ten Bangladeshi nationals were detained in Meghalaya and Tripura, while six infiltrators from the neighboring country were captured in Assam and subsequently returned to their homeland by the Assam Police, officials stated on Friday.
A spokesman for the Border Security Force (BSF) indicated that, as a gesture of goodwill, the BSF’s Meghalaya frontier transferred the six detained Bangladeshi nationals to the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) on Friday.
These individuals were intercepted on Thursday while trying to traverse the international boundary near the East Jaintia Hills district in Meghalaya.
In a separate occurrence, eight Bangladeshis, including two women, were detained in the West Garo Hills district of Meghalaya on Friday.
The intruders, who entered India via the Dalu area of West Garo Hills district, were found to be carrying two snakes. Legal actions are underway against them, and the snakes have been handed over to wildlife officials for appropriate measures.
Meanwhile, in Assam, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma noted on X that the state police are intensifying their efforts against infiltration, announcing that six Bangladeshi nationals were captured on Friday.
All of them were swiftly returned across the border, he mentioned. However, the Chief Minister did not specify the particular district in Assam where this incident occurred.
The infiltrators were recognized as Md Juman, Md Sahib, Hanupa Begum, Md Kholil, Saiful Rahman, and Rocky.
In Tripura, the Government Railway Police (GRP) detained two Bangladeshi nationals at the Agartala railway station.
Upon initial questioning, the intruders stated their intention was to travel to Kolkata.
The detained individuals were identified as Gyas Uddin (26) and Mainuddin (25), both hailing from Chottagram in the neighboring country.
With Republic Day celebrations approaching on Sunday, the BSF and other security agencies remain vigilant along the India-Bangladesh border.
The northeastern states of Tripura (856 km), Meghalaya (443 km), Mizoram (318 km), and Assam (263 km) share a lengthy 1,880-km border with Bangladesh.
