Kolkata, Jan 22 (NationPress) The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) is set to gather the voice samples of Sujay Krishna Bhadra, a key suspect in the multi-crore cash-for-school job scandal in West Bengal, on January 29.

According to sources, Bhadra's voice samples were initially scheduled for collection on Tuesday.

However, that did not occur as he was unable to attend a special court session in Kolkata due to medical issues.

Following this, the special court judge set January 29 as the new date for the CBI to obtain Bhadra's voice samples.

The judge also mandated Bhadra's presence in court on that day.

While Bhadra has received bail in the school job case investigated by the Enforcement Directorate (ED), which is conducting a separate investigation into the irregularities, he remains incarcerated as the CBI apprehended him in the same case.

Previously, ED personnel had also acquired voice samples from Bhadra.

This month, the trial proceedings for the ED-registered case began at a special court under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) in Kolkata.

There are a total of 53 defendants, comprised of 29 individuals and 24 corporate entities or trusts, as detailed in the subsequent chargesheets issued by the ED.

Alongside Bhadra, other prominent individuals implicated in the case include the former West Bengal Education Minister and Trinamool Congress Secretary General Partha Chatterjee, his close associate Arpita Mukherjee, and his son-in-law Kalyanmoy Bhattacharya.

Chatterjee was arrested by ED officials in July 2022 after a significant cache of cash and gold was discovered at the residences of his close aide Mukherjee by the investigative team.

Since that time, Chatterjee has remained in custody at the Presidency Central Correctional Home in South Kolkata, while Mukherjee was recently released on conditional bail.

The Babli Chatterjee Memorial Trust, named after Chatterjee's late wife, is also listed in the ED chargesheet as an accused entity. It is alleged that the illicit proceeds from the school job case were misrepresented as donations to this trust, thus being misappropriated.
