Kolkata, April 14 (NationPress) As tensions persist in various regions of West Bengal, which have experienced violent protests against the Waqf Act, Governor C.V. Ananda Bose's office has instructed the Indian Red Cross Society (IRCS) to offer immediate assistance to those affected by the riots, especially in the Murshidabad and Malda districts, along with other troubled areas.

The chairman of IRCS, S.K. Pattanayak, has been designated as the nodal officer, along with the chief nodal officer of the rapid action cell from Raj Bhavan, Kolkata.

As of the time this report was prepared, there have been no new incidents of violence in the troubled regions of Murshidabad since Sunday night. Personnel from the Central Armed Police Force (CAPF) have been conducting regular route marches in affected areas such as Suti, Jangipur, Dhulian, and Samserganj, which experienced significant unrest.

District administration sources reported that efforts are underway to assist families who lost their homes due to the violence that erupted on the night of April 8.

A committee has been formed to assess the financial impact caused by the unrest; however, the state administration has not yet announced compensation for the violence victims.

Despite claims of control over the situation in Murshidabad, the administration faces challenges from ongoing rumors fueled by the spread of fake videos on social media. Consequently, Internet services have been restricted in certain areas of Murshidabad and some parts of neighboring Malda and Birbhum districts.

On Sunday night, the Governor stated that Raj Bhavan is closely monitoring developments and noted discussions with Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee regarding the matter.

“Adequate CAPF personnel are already stationed there, and additional forces will be deployed if required,” the Governor confirmed.
