West Bengal polls Phase 2: Turnout hits 78.68% in 142 seats after 8 hours
Voting in the second phase of the West Bengal Assembly elections recorded a turnout of 78.68% across 142 constituencies in the first eight hours till 3 pm on Wednesday, 29 April, according to data from the office of the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO), West Bengal. The figure is marginally lower than the 78.77% logged in the first six hours of the first phase on 23 April, which covered 152 Assembly constituencies.
ECI Confident of 93% Final Turnout
With polling scheduled to close at 6 pm, the Election Commission of India (ECI) expressed confidence that the second phase would replicate the ~93% final turnout seen in the first phase. An insider from the CEO's office noted that the high turnout had been unusually uniform throughout the day.
