Bengaluru, April 22 (NationPress) The Bengaluru Police have filed an FIR against an officer of the Indian Air Force on Tuesday, following a road rage altercation involving him and a motorcyclist. The case was registered at the Byappanahalli police station, targeting Wing Commander Shiladitya Bose. Prior to this, the motorcyclist, Vikas Kumar, was detained in connection with the incident. The situation escalated after Bose shared a video on social media, claiming he was assaulted by a local individual for not communicating in Kannada.

However, subsequent CCTV footage depicted Bose overpowering the motorcyclist, delivering kicks and punches.

The FIR charges include IPC Sections 109 (attempt to murder), 115(2) (voluntarily causing hurt), 304 (snatching forcefully), 324 (mischief), and 352 (intentional insult to provoke breach of peace).

The complaint was lodged by Vikas Kumar, a call center employee. He reported that while he was returning a friend's bike, a car made contact with his vehicle. “When I inquired about the damage, the officer retaliated by kicking the bike. As I protested, he assaulted me repeatedly. When I attempted to call my friend, he seized my phone and threw it away. He also discarded the bike keys and attempted to choke me,” Kumar recounted.

The conflict intensified after Kannada organizations criticized the officer’s video and the alleged assault, accusing him of framing the issue as a language conflict between Kannada and Hindi. Following Kumar’s arrest, they condemned the police for their perceived biased actions.

DCP East D. Devaraju indicated earlier that the incident transpired around 6 a.m. on Monday while the Air Force officer was en route from DRDO Quarters to the Bengaluru International Airport. “An argument ensued between the officer, his wife, and the biker. His wife, Squadron Leader Madhumita Das, was at the wheel. The situation worsened, and we possess CCTV footage alongside videos captured by other witnesses,” he stated.

“This is a clear case of road rage. Both parties could have prevented the escalation. Around 6:30 a.m., they arrived at the police station, where the SHO suggested they seek medical attention due to bleeding,” he noted.

He also mentioned that Bose had hurried to the airport due to a delay. “Once he went live on social media, we tracked down the details and reached out to Madhumita Das at the DRDO quarters. She later visited the police station and filed a complaint. This is distinctly a road rage incident,” DCP Devaraju emphasized.
