Bengaluru, March 28 (NationPress) An initial probe into the murder of a housewife, whose remains were concealed in a trolley bag in Bengaluru, suggests that the heinous act was perpetrated by her techie husband during a moment of rage, according to police sources on Friday.

The Karnataka Police successfully located the suspect, who had fallen into a state of despair and ingested cockroach poison in an attempt to take his own life. Acting promptly, they collaborated with the Maharashtra Police, apprehending him near Pune and transferring him to a hospital. The swift actions of the Bengaluru Police have received widespread praise.

The Karnataka Police maintained contact with the husband, who had fled following the murder and the concealment of his wife’s body in a trolley bag. They kept communication lines open until he was apprehended by Maharashtra Police in Pune.

The suspect, identified as 36-year-old Rakesh Rajendra Khedkar, is currently hospitalized in Pune after ingesting poison prior to his capture. The Karnataka Police have reached Pune to monitor his health condition and will escort him back to Bengaluru once he receives medical clearance.

As per the investigation, Rakesh brutally slashed the throat of his 32-year-old wife, Gauri Rajendra Khedkar, and stabbed her in the abdomen at their home. He then folded her legs and stuffed her remains into a trolley bag. After cleaning the crime scene with phenyl, he placed the bag next to the toilet and fled the scene.

This horrific crime came to light on Thursday. After committing the murder, Rakesh falsely informed nearby carpenters that his wife had taken her own life. He subsequently called the police control room, his landlord, and his wife's parents to confess to his actions.

While on the run, he continued making calls, allowing the police to track him using the contact number registered with the control room. They maintained communication with him while coordinating with the Maharashtra Police, aiding in his capture.

Sources indicate that DCP (South East) Sarah Fathima was in direct communication with Rakesh and played a crucial role in his detention in Pune and subsequent hospitalization.

The accused insisted on filing an FIR before he surrendered. The Karnataka Police complied with his request, though he later lost contact. Investigators discovered that he was using another SIM card to make calls to friends from the same device, which allowed them to keep track of him.

Initial investigations revealed that Gauri had argued with her in-laws and had convinced her husband to relocate from Maharashtra to Bengaluru. The couple resided in a modest neighborhood and rarely interacted with their neighbors. Local residents reported that whenever they spotted the couple, they were typically seen walking hand in hand.

One neighbor mentioned that Rakesh had recently collapsed at home due to low blood sugar, and they had assisted him in regaining consciousness.

Further inquiries suggest that Rakesh was frustrated with Gauri for her inability to find a job, leading to frequent disputes. During one such argument, he slapped her, which provoked her to throw a knife at him, resulting in an injury. In a fit of rage, he then slashed her throat and repeatedly stabbed her in the abdomen.

The prompt actions of the Bengaluru Police, who apprehended the suspect within 24 hours, have been highly commended.

Gauri's remains have been sent for a post-mortem examination.

DCP Fathima stated, "The couple hailed from Maharashtra and moved to Bengaluru a year ago. The landlord alerted the police control room after discovering the body in the suitcase. The deceased had completed her Bachelor's in Mass Media, and the accused worked from home for a private company."
