Bengaluru, Aug 13 (NationPress) An alarming incident unfolded within the jurisdiction of the Yelahanka police station in Bengaluru on Wednesday. A knife-wielding robber confronted a woman officer residing in a paying guest (PG) accommodation, subjected her to sexual harassment, and subsequently robbed her.
In response to the officer's report, law enforcement has initiated a manhunt to apprehend the suspect.
The officer, who serves as an assistant engineer at the Bangalore Electricity Supply Company (BESCOM), had only recently moved into the PG located in Judicial Layout, just 15 days prior. On August 11, she returned to her room on the third floor after her workday.
Upon hearing a knock at her door, she opened it, mistakenly believing it was staff from the PG. To her shock, a robber armed with a knife forced his way in, threatened her with the weapon, and subjected her to sexual harassment.
The assailant attempted to seize her jewelry, but when she fought back, he snatched two mobile phones from her bed and fled the scene.
Authorities have taken her statement and are currently reviewing CCTV footage from the vicinity to identify the perpetrator.
Further details regarding this incident are yet to emerge.
Recently, Bengaluru Police apprehended a PG owner named Ashraf, who is accused of raping a student. Reports indicate that he operated a PG in Soladevanahalli, where he allegedly took the victim, a college student, to a remote location and committed the crime.
On June 25, another distressing event came to light involving a nursing student who was allegedly raped by the PG owner after confessing to a theft. The suspect, identified as 35-year-old Ravi Teja Reddy, was arrested following the victim's report.
According to police, Reddy assaulted the 21-year-old nursing graduate from Andhra Pradesh after she admitted to stealing three gold rings from another resident. She had only been at the PG for one week and was actively seeking employment.
Investigations revealed that the victim had disconnected the CCTV camera's wire during the theft. She had asked another resident whether the footage would still be recorded despite the wire being cut, raising Reddy's suspicions.
In her complaint, the victim recounted how Reddy initially touched her inappropriately while pretending to check her. When she resisted, he allegedly raped her and threatened her to remain silent about the incident. It was only after her friends provided support that she felt empowered to file a police report.
