Does Bhagwat's Statement Bolster the Position of Muslims?
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Bareilly, Feb 9 (NationPress) The President of the All India Muslim Jamaat, Maulana Shahabuddin Razvi, has expressed his approval of recent comments made by RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat, highlighting various issues impacting the Muslim community in India.
In an interview with IANS, Maulana Razvi noted that Bhagwat's remarks regarding having three children have significantly reinforced the standing of the Muslim community. He emphasized that the ability to have children is among Allah's greatest blessings, and it is inappropriate for anyone to question this. He urged those who frequently criticize Muslims for having multiple children to reflect on Bhagwat’s words.
Addressing the topic of the Uniform Civil Code (UCC), he asserted that the Constitutional provisions regarding the UCC are clear and valid. He explained that public opinion must be solicited in states where the UCC is set to be implemented, and it cannot be enforced without the consent of the populace.
Using Uttarakhand as a case in point, he mentioned that Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami established the Justice Ranjana Desai Committee to formulate the UCC, yet the committee failed to incorporate the perspectives of Scheduled Tribes, tribal groups, or minority communities. He criticized the unilateral implementation of the UCC in Uttarakhand, arguing it contradicts constitutional norms.
Maulana Razvi asserted that laws cannot be enacted in India in this manner, stating that adopting such authoritarian approaches would undermine the fundamental structure of the Constitution and damage democratic values.
In his remarks aimed at Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, he accused him of engaging in blatant anti-Muslim rhetoric and consistently fostering animosity towards Muslims. He claimed that the Chief Minister aims to deteriorate the economic wellbeing of Muslims, citing Sarma’s suggestion that a rickshaw puller from the community seeking five rupees should only receive four. Such comments, he argued, incite hatred and division within society.
Furthermore, Maulana Razvi alleged that a controversial video associated with the Assam Chief Minister was an attempt to undermine democracy and ridicule democratic values, asserting that such political tactics are unacceptable in a democratic nation.
Referring to Bhagwat’s assertion that India is incomplete without Muslims, Razvi pointed out that the Assam Chief Minister continues to dismiss such sentiments, instead resorting to provocative and inflammatory rhetoric against Muslims. He called for the Supreme Court to take suo motu cognizance of the situation and initiate appropriate actions.
