Bhopal, July 27 (NationPress) In a significant urban transit milestone for Madhya Pradesh, Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav has revealed that the Bhopal Metro Rail's priority corridor is set to be inaugurated in October 2025, featuring a launch officiated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
This announcement marks the nearing completion of the AIIMS to Subhash Nagar stretch, the inaugural segment of the city’s eagerly anticipated Metro project.
On Sunday, Dr. Yadav personally oversaw the progress and traveled a short distance along the priority corridor. Developed at an estimated cost of Rs 2,225 crore, this corridor spans approximately 7.5 kilometres and includes eight elevated stations. The Metro line is set to offer world-class passenger amenities, featuring modern escalators, elevators, automated fare collection systems, and facilities for differently-abled passengers.
The Chief Minister noted that 27 state-of-the-art train sets have been commissioned for the project, with seven already delivered and currently undergoing trial runs.
The Bhopal Metro, being implemented by the Madhya Pradesh Metro Rail Corporation Limited (MPMRCL), aims to enhance public mobility, alleviate vehicular congestion, and mitigate environmental pollution within the state capital. The first phase is expected to extend 28 kilometres across two interconnected corridors, incorporating both elevated and underground tracks to provide comprehensive urban coverage.
Simultaneously, Indore—the state’s commercial hub—is progressing with its own Metro infrastructure under this initiative. The Indore Metro Rail Project, with a Phase 1 length of 33.53 kilometres, is projected to cost Rs 7,500 crore and is funded through a blend of central and state resources, alongside international development loans. A 5.9-kilometre priority segment from Gandhi Nagar to Station Number 3 has successfully completed trial runs, with full operations slated for 2027.
The Bhopal Metro’s Orange Line, stretching from AIIMS to Karond, will feature 16 stations—14 elevated and two underground—across a 16.69-kilometre alignment. Notably, 13.3 kilometres will be on elevated viaducts, while 3.39 kilometres will be constructed underground.
The Blue Line will cover 14.16 kilometres from Bhadbhada to Ratnagiri Tiraha, comprising entirely of elevated track with 14 stations along its route. In total, the two lines will span 30.85 kilometres and encompass 30 stations, forming the backbone of Bhopal’s new mass transit system.
Both Metro projects, in Indore and Bhopal, are pivotal to Madhya Pradesh’s strategy for modernizing urban transportation and fostering regional development. The government envisions a transformative shift in commuter experiences and urban planning, with Indore and Bhopal poised to lead in seamless, clean, and high-capacity transit.
