New Delhi, Jan 19 (NationPress) With the 2025 Delhi Assembly elections approaching, Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) national convener Arvind Kejriwal announced on Sunday his intention to introduce a housing welfare initiative aimed at sanitation workers. He indicated that he has reached out to the Centre for assistance in acquiring land at reduced rates.
During a press conference, Kejriwal revealed that he had penned a letter to PM Narendra Modi, highlighting the permanent housing challenges faced by sanitation workers of the New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) and Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) post-retirement.
In reaction, South Delhi MP and senior BJP leader Ramvir Singh Bidhuri asserted that the Modi government has already commenced the construction of homes for slum residents in Delhi, emphasizing that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has made substantial progress. He noted that the government has already allocated flats to slum dwellers and is committed to continuing this effort.
Bidhuri claimed that around 10,000 flats have been completed, with plans to distribute them to slum inhabitants. He pointed out that PM Modi's administration has provided permanent residences for 6.30 lakh slum dwellers, in addition to constructing 11 crore toilets. He assured that individuals without stable housing would also receive suitable accommodations.
He further mentioned that once the BJP secures governance in Delhi, slum residents will have access to ration cards, old age pensions, the Ayushman Bharat Yojana, and the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana.
Addressing Kejriwal's assertions, he mockingly stated that Kejriwal had 10 years to act but failed to deliver. He added that under Prime Minister Modi's leadership, the BJP government in Delhi would fulfill the promises made by Kejriwal.
Bidhuri also criticized Kejriwal for a recent incident where the former Delhi CM allegedly attempted to run over BJP workers with his vehicle, labeling the conduct as reprehensible and demanding an apology from Kejriwal, along with a call for strict measures against him.
