Patna, April 23 (NationPress) Following the terror attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir (J&K), the Bihar Police have entered a state of high alert, boosting security measures across significant tourist and pilgrimage sites within the state.
Increased vigilance is now evident at popular destinations such as Rajgir's ropeway, zoo-safari, and nature-safari, along with revered locations in the hills and forests, particularly the Panch Hills, Vishwa Shanti Sthal, Ashok Stupa, Venuvan, and Vulture Peak, which are acknowledged as crucial Buddhist pilgrimage sites.
“Historically, tourist sites in Rajgir, Nalanda, or Pawapuri have never experienced a terror attack. Nevertheless, given the current circumstances, we are taking no risks. Security has been substantially enhanced at all such locations,” stated Rajgir DSP Sunil Kumar Singh.
In response to the Pahalgam terror attack, the Bihar Police Department convened an emergency meeting and promptly initiated key security measures.
High-level surveillance teams have been deployed to oversee sensitive areas, including the Nalanda ruins, Rajgir, Pawapuri, and other prominent attractions.
In Gaya, the security at the Mahabodhi Temple — a UNESCO World Heritage site and an essential Buddhist pilgrimage center — has been fortified.
Likewise, in Patna, enhanced security protocols are now operational at Takht Sri Harimandir Sahib, Badi Patan Devi, Choti Patan Devi, and Hanuman Mandir, among others.
Police patrolling has been intensified, and all district administrations have been directed to maintain a high alert status and ensure the safety of both domestic and international tourists visiting the state.
At least 26 civilians, primarily tourists, lost their lives in a terror attack in Pahalgam, located in Jammu and Kashmir's Anantnag district, on Tuesday. This was the deadliest incident in the Valley since the 2019 Pulwama attack.
The attack occurred at Baisaran, a meadow that can only be accessed on foot or by pony, where a group of tourists was visiting on Tuesday morning.
The Resistance Front, a shadow group linked to the banned Pakistan-based Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT), has taken responsibility for the attack.
