A Janata Dal (United) leader was seriously injured on Saturday after an alleged armed assault near Rajbazar under the Jehanabad Town Police Station limits in Bihar. The victim, Manish Kumar, a resident of Sikariya village, is reportedly a close associate of Bihar minister Ashok Chaudhary, adding political weight to the incident.

How the Attack Unfolded

According to police, Manish Kumar had travelled to Rajbazar to help a fellow villager access medical treatment. While he was consulting a doctor on the patient's behalf, a group of assailants allegedly set upon him. The sudden assault triggered panic among bystanders in the area.

Kumar sustained multiple deep wounds inflicted by sharp-edged weapons and lost a significant amount of blood, according to doctors at Jehanabad Sadar Hospital, where he was rushed by companions and residents. His condition is being closely monitored.

What the Victim Told Police

In his initial statement recorded at the hospital, Manish Kumar identified one of the alleged attackers as Ankit alias Laddu Narayan, said to have been accompanied by four or five unidentified associates. The assailants were reportedly carrying firearms in addition to sharp-edged weapons, according to Kumar's account.

Kumar further alleged that the attackers threatened him during the assault, claiming they would continue dealing in liquor, opium, and other narcotic substances in the area and that no one could stop them. Police have not independently verified these allegations.

Investigation Under Way

Officers from the Jehanabad Town Police Station reached the hospital to record the victim's statement and gather accounts from family members. Police said they are probing all possible angles, including the possibility that the assault is linked to opposition to the illegal narcotics trade in the area.

Raids are being conducted at suspected hideouts to apprehend the named accused, Ankit alias Laddu Narayan, and others allegedly involved. Officials stated that further legal action will follow based on evidence gathered during the investigation.
