Patna, April 9 (NationPress) The Bihar Police has provided a comprehensive reply to Leader of Opposition Tejashwi Yadav, who has persistently voiced worries about the declining law and order in the state.

Responding to a recent post where Tejashwi Yadav cited 76 supposed criminal occurrences, the Police Headquarters pointed out that 46 of these incidents have been identified and thoroughly investigated.

In their statement, the police disclosed that 112 suspects have already been apprehended and incarcerated regarding these 46 cases.

From January 1 to April 7, 2025, the Police Headquarters reported that 1,632 individuals were detained for murder cases, while 947 were arrested for assaults on police personnel.

A further breakdown indicated that 697 individuals were taken into custody for robbery offenses, and 281 were involved in dacoity cases.

The police asserted that many of the incidents highlighted by Tejashwi Yadav were minor, arising from issues like financial disputes, land disagreements, familial conflicts, romantic entanglements, and mobile-related altercations.

Each incident is being meticulously investigated, with police affirming they are “working with full dedication and honesty.”

The Police Headquarters criticized what they termed “unnecessary and demoralizing” commentary on social media.

They pointed out that the lack of specific details such as dates and police station names in Tejashwi Yadav’s post rendered many of the reported incidents unverifiable.

The police emphasized that “sensationalism” surrounding law and order could adversely affect the morale of the security forces.

Quoting data from the National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB), the Bihar Police emphasized that Bihar ranks 14th in murder cases based on the crime rate per lakh population. In 2022, Bihar's total cognizable crime rate was 277.1 per lakh, compared to the national average of 422.2, placing Bihar 19th in this regard.

According to the Indian Penal Code, Bihar’s crime rate was 168.1, positioning the state 21st among Indian states and union territories. In 2021, 69.73% of crimes were connected to personal animosities, illicit relations, or disputes.

This figure rose to 71.20% in 2022 and further increased to 73.69% in 2023. The Police Headquarters concluded by reiterating its commitment to public safety and transparent policing, urging political leaders to refrain from undermining ongoing investigations with incomplete or misleading information.

When compared to larger states, Bihar's crime rate remains low. Nationally, the cognizable crime rate is 422, with Andhra Pradesh at 368.2, Chhattisgarh at 404.2, Gujarat at 738.9, Haryana at 810.4, Kerala at 1274.8, Madhya Pradesh at 569.3, Maharashtra at 443.0, Odisha at 386.7, Rajasthan at 388.8, Tamil Nadu at 617.2, Uttar Pradesh at 322.0, and Bihar at 277.1 per lakh population.
