Patna mobile showroom looted: Gas cutter gang steals ₹40 lakh in Daniyawan
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Unidentified criminals allegedly used a gas cutter to break into a mobile showroom and its warehouse in the Daniyawan area of Patna district, Bihar, making off with cash and electronic goods worth nearly ₹40 lakh in the early hours of Monday, 7 July. The brazen burglary at Neha Mobile Corner, located in Galaxy Tower behind the State Bank of India (SBI) branch in Daniyawan market, has alarmed local traders and shopkeepers.
How the Burglary Unfolded
Shop owner Surendra Kumar closed the showroom at around 11:00 pm on Sunday and left for home. According to police, a group of four to five individuals arrived at the premises between 1:00 am and the early morning hours of Monday, equipped with a gas cutter. The accused allegedly cut through the shop's shutter and iron grille before gaining entry into both the showroom and the attached warehouse.
The theft came to light on Monday morning after an acquaintance noticed the damaged shutter and informed Kumar. On reaching the premises, Kumar found the shutter cut open and immediately alerted the Dial-112 emergency service.
What Was Stolen
Police said the burglars made off with approximately ₹3.20 lakh in cash from the safe, along with a large quantity of electronic goods. The stolen items reportedly include Apple iPhones, Vivo smartphones, 10 HP laptops, televisions, batteries, and other merchandise — with the total estimated loss amounting to nearly ₹40 lakh, according to the shop owner.
Police Response and Investigation
Senior officers, including Fatuha SDPO-2 Sanjeev Kumar, Circle Inspector Maya Kumari, and personnel from the Daniyawan police station, visited the crime scene shortly after receiving information. Given the scale of the theft, teams from the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) and the dog squad were deployed to assist with the investigation.
Police are currently collecting forensic evidence and examining CCTV footage from the showroom and nearby establishments to identify the suspects. SDPO Sanjeev Kumar confirmed that preliminary investigation and technical evidence point to four to five individuals being involved.
Raids Under Way
Multiple police teams have been formed and are conducting raids at suspected locations to apprehend the accused and recover the stolen property. Police expressed confidence that the case would be resolved shortly and those responsible brought to justice. This incident adds to growing concerns about organised burglaries targeting commercial establishments in the Patna district.
