Is Bihar's Treasury Being Looted? RJD's Shakti Singh Yadav Raises Alarm

Key Takeaways

Accusations of treasury misappropriation Bihar's debt exceeds Rs 3 lakh crore Call for transparency in government spending Concerns over demolishing Bihar Niwas Political motivations behind financial decisions

Patna, Jan 10 (NationPress) Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) spokesperson Shakti Singh Yadav claimed on Saturday that there is a plot to misappropriate the state treasury, asserting that Bihar's financial assets are being wasted through unnecessary expenses.

During a media briefing in Patna, Yadav stated, “Such irresponsible expenditure is the reason Bihar’s debt has surged past Rs 3 lakh crore, creating a financial burden of nearly Rs 25,000 for each resident of the state.”

He accused the state administration of distributing Rs 10,000 to women solely for electoral purposes while neglecting its commitment to deposit Rs 2 lakh into women’s bank accounts.

“Disbursing Rs 2 lakh to women would mean an extra financial obligation of Rs 2.70 lakh crore, with an additional Rs 1.05 lakh crore needed for salaries. This totals Rs 3.75 lakh crore, even though Bihar's overall budget is approximately Rs 3 lakh crore,” Yadav explained.

Calling for transparency, the RJD leader urged the government to publish a white paper on treasury expenditures and present the realities to the people of Bihar.

He mentioned that there is significant public discourse regarding the government’s plans to demolish and reconstruct Bihar Niwas, labeling it a blatant example of financial mismanagement.

Yadav raised questions about the need to demolish Bihar Niwas, which is only 32 years old and structurally sound.

“The government needs to clarify why it sees the necessity to demolish such a sturdy structure,” he remarked.

He further alleged that this plan is politically driven, aimed at removing the plaque that honors Lalu Prasad Yadav.

“The ruling party seems uneasy with the plaque bearing Lalu Prasad Yadav’s name. They must realize that the treasury belongs to the people, not to any individual or party,” Yadav emphasized.

Pointing out what he called selective targeting, Yadav noted that Bihar Niwas was built in New Delhi in 1994, while Bihar Bhawan is over 90 years old, yet no actions are being taken against it.

Questioning the government’s priorities, Yadav asked why there is no initiative to develop an education hub in Bihar.

“Out of jealousy and political rivalry, the identity of Bihar Niwas is being erased, while the BJP shows indifference to projects focused on development,” he alleged.

He also claimed that associates of Chief Minister Nitish Kumar want their names inscribed on foundation stones, which is why the demolition of Bihar Niwas is being discussed.

“This is nothing short of a conspiracy to loot the state treasury,” Yadav concluded.

Reiterating the party’s position, he stated that the Rashtriya Janata Dal intends to bring this issue to the public's attention and is committed to safeguarding Bihar’s public resources.
