Patna, July 7 (NationPress) The national president of Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD), Lalu Prasad Yadav, fiercely criticized Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah regarding the current voter list verification process in Bihar.
In a post on the social media platform X, Lalu Prasad stated, “Two Gujaratis are attempting to take away the voting rights of 8 crore Biharis. These individuals harbor disdain for Bihar, the Constitution, and democracy. It’s time to awaken and voice your concerns! Protect democracy and the Constitution.”
The ongoing voter list revision, ahead of the Bihar Assembly elections, has sparked significant political upheaval. The opposition is accusing the central government, the Bihar administration, and the Election Commission of plotting to remove millions of voters' names to manipulate election outcomes.
Leader of Opposition Tejashwi Yadav also voiced his concerns on X, labeling the initiative as a “serious conspiracy” aimed at disenfranchising voters in Bihar.
“A serious conspiracy to ban votes in Bihar. The strategy to eliminate votes from Dalits, OBCs, and minorities while adding fraudulent votes has commenced. This is a grave conspiracy to impose vote ban in Bihar,” Tejashwi asserted.
He further claimed that “Modi and Nitish are collaborating through the Election Commission, determined to undermine the Constitution and democracy while stripping you of your voting rights. Their anxiety is evident after witnessing their looming defeat. If voters are disenfranchised, what remains of democracy and the Constitution?”
This matter has escalated to the Supreme Court, with multiple petitions filed against the voter list revision, arguing that it is unconstitutional and detrimental to the public, while demanding immediate action to prevent the alleged removal of thousands of names.
On Monday, senior advocate Kapil Sibal brought this issue before the Supreme Court, requesting an urgent hearing.
The apex court has agreed to hear the case on Thursday, July 10.
